Waiata Mai : 35 Maori Songs by Kare Rapata Leathem

Waiata Mai (Sing to Me) is a new Maori song book aimed at anyone who is learning the language or planning to visit a marae for the first time. It comprises 35 popular Maori songs, including 'Pookarekare Ana Nga Wai', 'Me He Manu Rere' and 'Hoki Hoki Tonu Mai'. For each song, the Maori lyrics are accompanied by a new English translation and explanatory notes. A cassette including all 35 songs is also available. Kare Rapata Leathem was born in the remote northern settlement of Te Haapua, and her tribes are Ngaati Kurii and Te Aupoouri. She has always loved to sing Maori songs and has a very wide knowledge of the popular and semi-traditional songs that form an important part of contemporary Maori culture.
