Notes on Book Conditions

This is meant as a general guide to our book conditions. Specific defects may be stated separately. If in doubt, please contact us to get more details.

Mint/New: Brand new, unread copy, sometimes in shrink-wrap. The same as you would buy from a ‘new’ bookshop.

Near Mint: Second hand, but unread. No signs of wear, other than from being on the shelf.

Very Good: Minor signs of wear, such as the previous owner’s name inside, minor creasing to the cover or minimal foxing (spotting) at the edges of pages.

Good: Visible signs of wear, such as creasing, dog ears, or foxing (spotting). Hardcover books may not have a dust jacket.

Fair: Major wear, possible cracked binding, major foxing or tanning – but still readable.

Poor: Possible loose or missing pages or other major defects. Books in this condition are only listed if they are rare or particularly sought after.
