This book tells a story that is without parallel in British military and naval history. In December 1915 an armoured car unit of the Royal Naval Air Service, commanded by Commander Oliver Locker Lampson, RNVR, MP, embarked for Russia to fight alongside the armies of the Czar. During the next three years the conditions in which the unit served varied from the frozen wastes of the Arctic to the searing heat of the Trans-Caucasia and the rain-drenched mud of the Danube delta. It fought in Russia, Asia Minor, Persia, Rumania and Austria, earning itself a tremendous reputation.
