Zoetropes: Poems 1972-82 by Bill Manhire

ZOETROPES is a selection of poems published by Bill Manhire between 1972 and 1982. New work is included along with poems from The Elaboration (1972), How to Take Off Your Clothes at the Picnic (1977) and Good Looks (1982). An invention of the early nineteenth century, the Zoetrope or Wheel of Life was a cylinder with a series of images on the inner surface; when observed through slits in the wall of the rotating cylinder, these images produced the illusion of movement. The cover and title pages reproduce several stages of an early zoetrope image.
