Page numbers and plate numbers are both given and quick and complete cross-reference between text and plates is therefore easily obtained. For plant identification the plates, which are arranged alphabetically, give an immediate visual answer. The title, printed adjacent to each plate, gives the scientific name of the plant, its height at full growth, and the size scale of the illustration. Brief descriptive notes covering the genera or family will be found printed with each group of plates. This note also covers general description, favourite habitat, care and cultivation, and the use of the plants in garden decoration. As hardiness varies with the various species or cultivars, this important factor is shown not only on the descriptive notes relating to the genera, but also on the title beneath each plate. The scale runs from A =Tender to F= Very Hardy.
