A biography of the English sailor who was serving with a Dutch fleet bound for the East Indies. Adams' ship, The Charity, was the only surviving vessel, which finally landed on the shores of Japan in April 1600 with only eighteen surviving crew members. Adams was taken under the wing of Shogun Ieyasu, and though never allowed to leave Japan, became a ship builder, translator and advisor in the Shogun's court.
