Crimson Sun Over Borneo by Hugh Hickling

Hickling wrote this novel in an attempt to find out what motivates us to cruelty. His main subject here is a fictionalised Japanese officer responsible for atrocities during war time Borneo. The story follows a group of survivors of the Japanese invasion through the jungles of Borneo and how they coped both before and after coming up against a Japanese platoon.
