So rapid was the uptake that a second edition was released that year. 'Waterways' covers not only the history of the Sounds but also the features that recognise them as one of NZ's most beautiful locations. although somewhere that had been largely overlooked, owing to its isolation. The author's association with the area dates back to the1920s, his wife's family being pioneer settlers in the 1850s. His account includes the activities of the orignal Maori residents, Cook's visit in 1770, initial European arrivals, and events up to the mid1900s. Few previous books on the 'Sounds' ensured the Ponder history became a sought-after title.'. This 1986 Wenlock House Hardback is in fair condition. Considerable fading on dust jacket, particularly on spine. Final page of book appears to have been taped to the end papers. Back end pages appear worn with a small piece of double-sided tape stuck to one section. This copy is a former library book, with stamps on first two pages. Previously coated in protective plastic which was taped to the end pages, cloth cover and inside of the dust jacket. Plastic has been removed but yellowed tape markings remain apparent. All that aside, book is otherwise in good condition!.
