Matariki

To celebrate Matariki, Book Haven will be closed for the public holiday on Rāmere 14 Hōngongoi, Friday 14 July. We hope you are able to have the day off as well and to spend time with friends and whānau. We will be.
Over Matariki we're catching up with family and having a large shared meal. It will be good! We're looking forward to it. The past year has felt long - running a business, even a place as magical as a secondhand bookshop, definitely has its ups and downs and can be all-time consuming. So having Matariki allows a space of sanity for us to reflect on and contemplate the last few months and to ponder options for the future.
One immediate short-term activity is we've having our annual mid-winter cookbook sale this month - from Saturday, 15 July, to the 25th July, it's 40% off all the books in our cooking section. (The sale is only for books purchased in the shop and doesn't include those in our expensive cabinet, sorry).
We also plan to hold over winter book craft events again. Last year it was great fun: Wellington Zinefest hosted it and journals were made, books were hollowed out to make secret book safes, and badges were made - in all there were six evenings of creative fun with old books. So keep an eye on this blog or follow us on social media so you can book in the events. We're beginning to do our planning this Matariki.
Other longer term plans are to survive and thrive as a local second-hand bookshop. So do pop in and browse our shelves. Books are constantly coming and going - and as it's getting colder, it feels like perfect weather to snuggle up with a good book.
Take care and all the best,
Book Haven
